WASHINGTON — Federal and state securities regulators on Tuesday announced a new Web site that gives investors access to information on money managers, financial planners and investment advisers.
The site, called Investment Adviser Public Disclosure, provides access to registration documents filed by more than 9,000 such professionals, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the North American Securities Administrators Association said in a joint statement. The association represents state securities regulators in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
The information will allow investors to compare the qualifications, services and fees of investment advisers and to see whether they had any disciplinary problems in the past 10 years.
Currently, investors can get information about brokers — who have different qualifications from investment advisers — from their state securities regulator. The information is not available on the Internet.
The new Web site is at www.adviserinfo.sec.gov
People without Internet access can get copies of advisers’ registration statements by calling the SEC Public Reference Room at 202-942-8090.
