EVERETT – Fred Taucher will run for the Port of Everett commission this fall, hoping his experience in international trade will help him win election to the six-year post.
Taucher, a member of the World Trade Alliance and the advisory board for the World Affairs Council, said the port needs to work harder to build business around the globe.
“I see we have a beautiful port here,” said Taucher, who has attended commission meetings regularly for the past five years. “But there has been very little freight going in or out of this port. I would like to see Everett be an international port.”
He is seeking the commission seat now held by Jim Shaffer, who is not seeking re-election.
A former president of Seattle’s Sister City association with Kobe, Japan, Taucher said he has made a number of trips to Japan and elsewhere and has a good understanding of trade and the importance of building relationships overseas.
“I think I can help get shipping in and out of Everett,” Taucher said, noting he can communicate in Japanese, is familiar with Asian cultures and is fluent in German.
Taucher is chairman and CEO of Corporate Computer Inc. of Seattle.
He said he has been endorsed for the nonpartisan office by former Gov. Albert Rosellini.
