EVERETT — The Port of Everett may charge for long-term parking at its boat launch, and also is considering new fees at its marina.
Marina manager Kim Buike told the port’s three commissioners Tuesday that the marina is looking for ways to boost revenues.
He said people who use the boat ramp are charged a $5 launch fee, but there is no fee for people who park vehicles there. Buike said those who pay the launch fee should be entitled to park in the adjacent lot overnight for free. But he’d like those who park for more than one night to pay a fee.
Vehicles with trailers would pay $3 a night and those without would pay $2.
Buike noted that the boat ramp, one of the largest on Puget Sound, has operated at a loss for a long time.
"We want to keep costs low for day use," he said. "But we’re looking for some cost recovery for those who are using the facility as a parking lot."
He also said he is considering two other fees at the marina, one for those who live on their boats and another for those who are delinquent in paying for their moorage spaces.
Live-aboards would be charged $25 a month to cover the extra costs for power, water, garbage and other expenses, he said. "We want to recover the costs of staff oversight and services," Buike said.
He said he also wants to recover the cost of dealing with delinquent accounts by charging for such things as notifications through certified mail and staff time in attempting to collect overdue money.
Buike didn’t ask the commissioners to approve any specific fees Tuesday, indicating he would be back with a more detailed proposal.
He also noted that the marina now has moorage for vessels of 55 feet or longer after dividing up a dock into eight 70-foot sections. He said new electrical service will be available at the large slips in April.
