PORTLAND, Ore. — The Port of Portland has signed a new shipping deal that gives Oregon exporters direct access to ports in Japan.
The Oregonian newspaper reports the monthly service by Westwood Shipping Lines will provide space for more than 200 containers per month under a six month contract.
Port of Portland officials say the service could expand if it proves successful.
Westwood will carry non-refrigerated containerized agricultural products including hay, as well as paper products and other commodities.
