VIENNA — Greece’s prime minister says steps taken to fight the country’s debt crisis are starting to take hold.
George Papandreou says tough and necessary decisions have been made and that “we are now witnessing the first signs that we are turning the corner.”
Papandreou — addressing members of the Institute of International Finance — also pledged to repay financing by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.
Greece was saved from defaulting on its loans last month by the first installment of a euro110 billion ($131 billion) rescue package from the IMF and the 15 other nations that share the euro currency.
