A U.S. Senate committee has scheduled a hearing next week on a mixup in the Air Force tanker contest.
Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., requested a hearing after the Air Force gave the Boeing Co.’s bid information to competitor EADS, and vice versa, in a contest worth $35 billion.
Boeing would assemble its 767-based tankers here in Everett while EADS will assemble its tankers, based on Airbus A330 jets, in Mobile, Ala. EADS is the parent company of Airbus.
After touring Boeing’s 767 line yesterday, Cantwell said the hearing would take place next week.
The U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services put the hearing on its schedule for 9:30 a.m., Jan. 27.
The purpose of the meeting: To receive testimony on the results of the investigation by the Department of Defense and the Department of the Air Force into the release of proprietary data in the KC-X competition.
It is not known yet who will testify for the Air Force.
This is the Air Force’s third attempt at replacing its Eisenhower-era KC-135 aerial refueling tankers.
