That’s right. Small business owners are feeling just a little more cheery about the economy.
Maybe cheery is too strong a word. But they’re more optimistic than they’ve been since September of 2008.
The National Federation of Independent Business just released its Small Business Optimism Index for May, reporting the measure moved 1.6 points to 92.2 last month.
I know. The numbers don’t mean a lot on their own. Here’s more on what the survey actually measures.
Essentially, the survey results show business owners feel better about their chances of success. But not so much better that they’re going to start hiring any time soon.
In fact, small businesses didn’t contribute to job growth in May, according to the NFIB. Small firms shed an average of 0.5 employees during the month.
