LYNNWOOD – The South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce is relocating next to the Lynnwood Convention Center, a move that is expected give the business organization a higher profile.
The chamber has had its office in the former Fisher Business Center office building, now the Alderwood Business Center, since 1995.
Jean Hales, the south Snohomish chamber’s president, said the office building’s owners and manager have been great landlords over the years, but the chance to be near Lynnwood’s new public conference center was too good to pass up.
“This is the right thing for us to do at the right time,” Hales said. “It makes sense for us to be at the center of where things are happening.”
The chamber’s new office will be at 3815 196th St. SW, Suite 136. The move is scheduled for around Sept. 1.
The space is just west of where the convention center is being built, said Shawn Mahoney, construction project manager for the Lynnwood Public Facilities District, which is building the convention center.
The chamber will share the 3,500-square-foot space with the public facilities district, which owns the building.
The chamber’s move echoes the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce’s move to the Everett Events Center in 2003. That chamber also moved from a hard-to-find office into one of the most visible new landmarks in downtown Everett.
Hales said she expects the south Snohomish chamber’s new office to receive more walk-in traffic. “We’ll be a lot more visible because we’re be right at the major intersection,” she said.
The chamber, which started more than 35 years ago, represents more than 700 member businesses and individuals in Bothell, Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo and Woodway.
The $30 million Lynnwood Convention Center, covering 55,000 square feet, is scheduled to be open next spring.
