After decades of operating Boeing Co. 737s exclusively, Southwest Airlines is willing to consider other planes and jet makers.
The carrier’s chief executive said he’d be OK with operating three different types of aircraft.
Boeing hasn’t told Southwest yet what it’s decision will be on the fate of the 737. Rival jet maker Airbus announced late last year that it will offer a new engine option on its A320 single-aisle jet, which competes with Boeing’s 737. Boeing officials have said they’re unlikely to follow suit.
Boeing is expected to make an announcement about whether it will introduce an all-new replacement for the 737 or upgrades for the Renton-built 737 this year.
