BOTHELL — T-Mobile USA Inc. is relocating its information technology center to Canyon Park, a move that should add several hundred jobs to Snohomish County.
The move, which consolidates several facilities in the region, should take place this spring.
The company is leasing several new buildings in Canyon Park, home to a number of related businesses.
Robert Strickland, a senior vice president and chief information officer for T-Mobile, noted that the company already has workers in the Bothell area.
“We look forward to becoming a stronger part of the Bothell community,” he said.
The company didn’t provide a specific number for the employees who will move to the new offices.
Ryan Crowther of the Snohomish County Economic Development Council said the county had about 1,400 wireless communication jobs and that the T-Mobile decision could eventually represent a 50 percent increase.
He said initially it will mean “more than 200 to 300” jobs.
Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb lauded the company’s decision, saying it builds on the city’s “investment in scientific discovery and innovation.” The area, called the Technology Corridor, has been popular with tech and biotech firms.
“T-Mobile’s decision to expand in Bothell further validates the Technology Corridor designation established when the business parks were initially developed,” Matt Smith, the vice president of the development council, said in a news release.
