Whether an employee leaves voluntarily or involuntarily, how you handle the exit of an employee is just as important as hiring the replacement worker. This class will walk you through the typical employment termination process, explain the various compliance pieces you need to be aware of, and best practices you should consider. Topics that will be discussed are:

  • How to conduct terminations due to poor performance or behavior issues
  • How to conduct a layoff
  • How to handle a voluntary termination or resignation
  • How to communicate to staff that a co-worker is leaving the company
  • Are resignation letters necessary? If so, what information should be included?
  • How and when to offer an exit interview
  • Termination check-off list forms (best practice)
  • To write or not to write: Letters of references and recommendations
  • What to say to potential employers who are calling for references and verifications
