LYNNWOOD — Snohomish County is about to get its first Whole Foods Market.
The company plans to open a new store in Lynnwood, probably by early 2012, said David Hulbert, a spokesman for the Austin, Texas-based company.
“It’s going to be awhile,” Hulbert said.
Whole Foods already has signed a lease. The new store will be located at the site of a former Circuit City at 196th Street SW and 28th Avenue W.
Whole Foods is not the mystery company eyeballing the site of the former Lynnwood High School just north of Alderwood mall. That company hasn’t yet revealed itself.
David Kleitsch, economic development director for the city of Lynnwood, said the city hasn’t heard from Whole Foods yet. The company hasn’t yet filed a permit application.
“We are aware of interest in the building,” he said. “There is a nice synergy of commercial businesses there.”
The company is getting ready to expand. The Lynnwood lease is one of seven the company has signed this month at locations around the United States. Stores also are planned for Glasgow, Scotland, and London.
Whole Foods, a high-end specialty market, has more than 270 stores in North America and the United Kingdom. It reported $9 billion in sales for its fiscal year 2010. In Washington, the company has opened stores in Bellevue, Redmond, Vancouver and Seattle.
