A weekend-long party for current and retired Boeing workers

SEATTLE — The Boeing Co. is throwing a three-day bash at the Museum of Flight this weekend to celebrate its centennial. The event, though, is only open to current and retired Boeing employees, and family members.

Highlights include a lineup of Boeing 7-series jets — from the 707 to the 787 Dreamliner. In all, more than 20 current and historic aircraft will be on display. There also will be flyovers and the Boeing Centennial Projection Spectacular light show.

Aviation and Boeing luminaries, such as Joe Sutter, the “Father of the 747,” will be on hand.

Can’t get into the weekend’s events? There are plenty of other ways to celebrate the aerospace giant’s 100th birthday.

The Institute of Flight at Paine Field in Mukilteo is rolling its recognition of Boeing into its summer concert series.

The Museum of Flight in Seattle has lots to see related to Boeing’s centennial. A visiting exhibition, Above and Beyond will be here until Sept. 12. The traveling exhibit was sponsored by Boeing and created in collaboration with NASA. It is an interactive exploration of advances in aviation and space travel.

The museum also has an ongoing Boeing Centennial exhibit, which runs through the end of the year. It draws from the museum’s extensive collection of Boeing aircraft, images and documents.
