EVERETT — The parents of double-murder suspect John Blaine Reed were in court Thursday to answer to allegations that they helped their son flee the country after he allegedly killed his former neighbors.
Faye Reed, 77, pleaded not guilty to first-degree rendering criminal assistance and her trial was scheduled for Oct. 21. Her husband Clyde Reed, 81, asked to delay his hearing for two weeks so he could hire his own attorney. He also is charged with rendering criminal assistance.
John Reed, 54, is expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail in the coming days. Mexican authorities arrested Reed late last month and turned him over to authorities in Pima County, Arizona. Reed waived extradition and is expected to face aggravated murder charges here for the deaths of Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenuade.
Prosecutors say Shunn and Patenaude were shot execution-style April 11. Their bodies were discovered about six weeks later in shallow grave several miles from their rural Oso home. Reed is accused of killing the pair over a long-standing feud.
