The inexorable arc toward an all-electric future continues with the 2023 Genesis GV60 luxury Performance SUV.
GV60 represents the brand’s first electric vehicle based on a dedicated EV platform and sports a dynamic, futuristic exterior.
The “G” in GV60 represents Genesis, while the “V” represents the vehicle’s versatility. The number ‘60’ is the lowest in the Genesis lineup and comes as the brand evolves its model-naming scheme to fit its unique design identity of ‘Athletic Elegance.’ Lower numbers will emphasize athleticism under the scheme, with elegance represented by higher numbers. Based on this system, the GV60 is Genesis’ most athletic model yet.
Two electric motors unlock 429 horsepower and 0-to-60 miles per hour acceleration in 3.7 seconds. Buckle your seat belt, this baby moves. GV60 seats up to five adults in comfort, with plenty of room for all. The estimated range is around 230 miles, but varies downward based on your use of climate settings, headlights, radio, and more.
Utilizing a Level 3 Electrify America charge port (I found one at my local Walmart), the GV60 can be charged from around 20% battery life to 80% in a span of 20 minutes, give-or-take, for about $30 bucks.
My tester provided all-wheel drive capability, which was put to the test during our first snowstorm of the season. The GV60 was sure-footed when I deactivated the regenerative braking feature. Prior to that, in one-pedal golf car mode, any time my foot left the power pedal, a slight fishtail was created.
But I haven’t even got to the cool part yet. GV60 uses biometric data including facial recognition and fingerprint technology to allow you to start your car in the event you lost your keys, or locked them in the vehicle.
Plus, the GV60 includes “Vehicle to Load” charging, allowing you to use your vehicle’s battery to power smaller items in your home during a power outage, or your electronics when camping or tailgating. No generator required.
Genesis loads the vehicle with creature comforts. My personal favorites were the Bang & Olufsen premium audio system which was enjoyed in a whisper quiet cabin, navigation system with 12.3-inch screen, heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, vision roof with power shade, smart rear lift gate, and Nappa leather seating surfaces.
The most noticeable feature in GV60’s interior design is the crystal sphere, a sphere-shaped shift-by-wire orb that intuitively informs drivers when the vehicle is ready to drive.
The crystal sphere is one of the most compelling design elements of the GV60. When the vehicle is turned off, the crystal sphere becomes the vehicle’s mood lights, adding to the aesthetic of the driving experience. When you’re ready to drive, the sphere rotates and the shift-by-wire appears, creating an indoor atmosphere of futuristic mobility.
Exterior features include 21-inch alloy wheels, clamshell hood (which is really a trunk), and a simple yet sharp silhouette running from the front hood to the rear spoiler that completes a
sleek, progressive profile.
Completing the GV60 package is an advanced safety technology package second to none. Highlights include forward collision avoidance, lane keeping and following assist, blind spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, smart cruise control, parking collision avoidance, remote smart parking assist, and highway driving assist.
