Ford’s Bronco certainly offers something for everyone.
The full-size Bronco SUV comes in seven trims and two- and four-door configurations: Base, Big Bend, Heritage Edition, Outer Banks, Badlands, Stroppe Edition and Raptor. The smaller Sport SUV (only available with four doors) comes in Big Bend, Heritage, Free Wheeling, Outer Banks and Badlands trims.
My tester, the Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend, was upgraded for 2025 with increased capability, advanced new technologies and modular, accessory-ready functional updates inside and out, all to help Bronco Sport customers go beyond the edge of the wild and leave the city behind.
A trip over the Mountain Loop Highway, connecting Granite Falls to Darrington via the wilderness, did just that. With the in-laws in tow, we traversed the pavement to Barlow Pass, taking in the scenery along the way. Then the Bronco works its magic over 20 miles of pothole-filled gravel road, deep in the backcountry of Snohomish County.
“Bronco Sport customers love the outdoors and go off-roading 3.5 times as often as the owners of competitive vehicles, and camping twice as often,” said Matt Simpson, Ford Enthusiast Vehicles general manager. “They want to know they can overcome obstacles that come their way, which drove our designers and engineers to push Bronco Sport to a new level of capability and performance to let our customers do more and have more fun off-road.”
Powered by a 1.5-liter Ecoboost engine paired with an eight-speed transmission, the Sport Big Bend seats five adults with a functional cargo area behind to hold essential gear. The turbocharged, in-line three-cylinder engine generates 181 horsepower and provided almost 30 miles per gallon fuel economy along with 450-mile range on a tank of gas.
Standard all-wheel drive is accompanied by GOAT (Goes Over Any Terrain) mode system with multiple driving modes to optimize performance in various conditions. The modes include Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery and Sand.
I experimented with Sand mode over the loose gravel. Bronco Sport maintained control and delivered confidence over the rough terrain, providing a sense of safety to my elderly passengers that were out of their comfort zone.
Big Bend includes a Black Diamond Off-Road package that enhances the vehicle’s off-road capabilities with features like steel underbody protection, all-terrain tires, Class II trailer tow package, and unique elements like brush guard, recovery hooks and a cargo management system.
For those looking to really leave the road, Badlands offers a more powerful engine, upgraded suspension, and advanced 4×4 system.
Bronco Big Bend is equipped with all the latest creature comforts cruise and audio controls, smart-charging USB ports and wireless phone charger, rearview camera, stereo system with six speakers, 12-volt powerpoint and remote keyless entry.
The 2025 Bronco Sport includes Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ standard on every trim and includes: Auto High Beam Headlamps, Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System (includes Lane-Keeping Assist, Lane-Keeping Alert, and Driver Alert).
Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (includes Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, and Dynamic Brake Support), Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and-Go and Lane Centering, Evasive Steering Assist, and Reverse Brake Assist.
