Ford’s excellent Maverick compact pickup truck gets a substantial update for 2025 with styling revisions, an all-wheel-drive option for hybrid models, infotainment system enhancements, new trims, and a towing capacity boost.
Up front, Maverick’s new grille stands out, joined by updated headlight design with darker housings and curved LEDs. New wheel designs are available on all trims.
Tremor, previously a package option, is now a trim level unto itself, and a new performance-oriented Lobo trim enters the lineup.
The 2025 Maverick’s new Sync 4 infotainment system has a 13.2-inch touchscreen and includes wireless smartphone integration.
Standard driver-assistance features include lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights. A 360-degree camera is available.
There are five Maverick trim levels for 2025: XL, XLT, Lariat, Tremor, and Lobo. Engine offerings, depending on trim, are a standard hybrid and an optional EcoBoost four-cylinder. They deliver 191 horsepower and 250 horsepower, respectively.
Base pricing starts below $30,000 and tops out at $41,390.
I drove a 2025 Ford Maverick XL, whose standard hybrid powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine, an electric motor, and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The truck was equipped with the newly available all-wheel-drive system, a $2,220 option.
Maverick XL’s torque rating is 155 pound-feet and it has a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. This isn’t the go-to model for people with more than just middling towing requirements, but it’s the hands-down best choice for those looking to maximize value.
Maverick’s pricing overall makes it one of the most affordable trucks in the United States, and the XL is the most affordable trim. Starting with a below-30K base price, the XL sweetens the deal by having a hybrid engine with an impressive fuel economy of 42 mpg for city driving and 35 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. My Maverick XL test truck with all-wheel drive had an EPA rating of 40 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined.
In automotive jargon, “affordable base price” can be code for “almost no comfort or convenience features,” but I found nothing egregious about the Maverick XL during my week with it. Standard features included remote keyless entry, intermittent windshield wipers, power locking, power windows with one-touch down driver window, cruise control, single-zone manual air conditioning, two USB ports, a 12-volt power point, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, rearview camera, 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, and of course the great new Ford Sync 4 infotainment system with its 13.2-inch touchscreen.
Truth be told, those are all the basics, especially for a pickup, where too many indulgences and embellishments can rob the vehicle of its truck mojo.
