Not everybody needs a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van.
But for those that do – most likely large families or small businesses – you’re in for a treat. The 2025 Sprinter transports up to 12 passengers, with an option available for 15. Sprinter is the total package – tough, powerful, efficient, and flexible.
My tester was powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 168 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. A high-output version is also available that delivers 208 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and offer both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options. It provides a range over 500 miles and about 15-20 miles per gallon fuel economy based on usage.
For enhanced traction and stability across various terrains, the Sprinter offers an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that seamlessly adjusts to changing road conditions. Additionally, the van boasts a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds, making it capable of handling substantial loads with ease.
The Sprinter van is designed with passenger comfort and convenience in mind. A 170-inch wheelbase and high roof (my 6-foot-4 son could stand upright inside) provide a spacious and versatile interior layout with seating that can be removed or adjusted for flexibility. Owners can choose four rows of bucket or bench seating, or a combination of both.
Sprinter comes equipped with cutting-edge technology and offers a long list of convenience features aimed at enhancing the driver and passenger experience. Highlights include a user-friendly, 10.5-inch, touchscreen, MBUX multimedia system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and USB-C ports and 12V chargers.
Standard features include automatic temperature control, a driver door bin, and front beverage holders. Optional features include heated front seats and steering wheel, and a heated rear window with washers and wipers.
Front air conditioning is controlled via buttons and toggle switches located below the MBUX entertainment system. The rear air conditioning is a separate, auxiliary unit mounted in the ceiling to ensure rear passenger comfort. Rounding out the package are a remote engine start, remote keyless entry, and residual heat recirculation.
My must admit, the Sprinter drives like a mini-bus. Extra care is needed rounding corners and parking. I did manage to squeeze Sprinter into a compact parking spot at the Mountlake Terrace Link station with help from the backup camera. Drive-thru’s and low parking garages are to be avoided at all costs.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van is equipped with a suite of advanced safety features, including Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist, 360-Degree Camera System, Sideguard Assist, Moving Off Information System, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Exit Warning and Emergency Call System.
Sideguard Assist works in conjunction with Blind Spot Assist, to specifically warn the drivers of cyclists or other road users entering the passenger-side blind spot, especially during lane changes or turns. Blind Spot Assist operates using radar sensors on either side of the vehicle and provides an audible warning when a turn signal is activated.
Mercedes also offers a Cargo Van, Crew Van, Cab Chassis Model and the eSprinter all-electric van.
