Eat: The Taste of Edmonds is all about the food. Listen: Local bands will transform the weekend into a memorable party at the Summer Meltdown in Darrington. The Meltdown is a big camp-out, with many staying for the whole experience, which begins Friday and runs through the early hours of Monday morning. In addition to the music and camping, partiers can try out the “interactive foam experience,” a giant game where people can spray each other with soap provided by Dr. Bronner’s. Shop: The HomeGrown Festival packs Marysville’s Third Street with music, artwork and a feast of food on Friday and Saturday. The fest highlights the homemade with a variety of soaps, clothing, jewelry, fused glass, paintings, flowers and produce. This year will feature more than 90 vendors. Find details in our story here.
Protect: While the Stillaguamish Festival of the River and Pow Wow is all about protecting the watershed, that message is mixed in with a lot of entertainment. For kids, there’s the giant storytelling turtle tent. There are also reptile and wild bird presentations, musical games and craft activities, and rock n’ roll bands will perform. Judge: The Singers’ Showcase on Saturday will feature 20 talented local performers showing off their singing and songwriting skills in an “American Idol”-style event. Singers will be judged on vocal performance, presentation and connection with the audience. The songwriters’ criteria will focus on the quality of the lyrics and musicality of the original song.
