Looking for something to do this weekend? We have some suggestions:
• Tour low-impact homes: Learn about rain gardens, water-wise plants, green roofs and other garden improvements that you can use to live more lightly on the land. Six residential properties in Everett, Lynnwood an
d Edmonds will be part of a tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. You can read our story here. Or you can go here for a list of the homes on the tour. The tour is free, but donations are welcome.
• Eat some barbecue: Prohibition Grille is hosting the first Downtown Everett BBQ Cookoff and Mardi Gras Party starting at 8 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature live music, dancing and, of course, food. Read more about it here.
• Drink some wine: The Snohomish Wine Festival is Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The event includes tastings, appetizers and live entertainment. You can read more about it here. Tickets are available here.
• See an edgy show: “Ruddigore” is burlesque blended with steampunk. It’s a combination that Northwest Savoyards stage director Danielle Villegas believes will titillate the audience watching her version of “Ruddigore.” The show opens Friday at 8 p.m., and there are performances on Saturday and Sunday as well. • Take the kids to a puppet show: The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will perform “Swimmy, Frederick and Inch by Inch” at 2 p.m. Sunday at Everett Civic Auditorium. Our story about it is here.
• Watch basketball: See some of the best high school boys basketball players in the state compete in the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association All-State Games at Mountlake Terrace High School. Mr. Basketball, Gary Bell, will be among the players. The games are scheduled for Saturday at Mountlake Terrace High School. Game times are 2 p.m. (1B vs. 2B), 3:45 p.m. (1A vs. 2A) and 5:15 p.m. (3A vs. 4A). The doors open at 1 p.m. and the cost is $8 for adults and $8 for seniors.
• See the Tips play: If the Silvertips don’t make the playoffs, these would be their last home games of the season. They play against Portland on Friday at 7:35 p.m. and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Our story is here. You can buy tickets here.
• Learn about pioneer life: The Muzzleloading Arms & Pioneer Craft Show is at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. The event is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Our story about it is here.
• See Vicki Lawrence: The comedian promises to reprise her role as Mama, the character on “The Carol Burnett Show” and “Mama’s Family.” Lawrence will perform at the Edmonds Center for the Performing Arts Friday night in “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show.” Our story is here.
