The latest book by children’s author Erik Korhel weaves poetry with boyhood tales of having a new bike stolen, playing pranks, getting braces, enduring baby sitters and haircuts, and catching a fast-moving ice cream man before he sells out.
Korhel’s new rhyming picture book, “The Kid with the Red Juice Mustache and Other Nostalgic Companions,” is illustrated by Machias resident Celia Marie Baker. The book lists at $14.95.
“Elementary school was the best time of my life, and writing about my experiences gives me the opportunity to relive it, even the embarrassing things,” said Korhel in a news release.
Korhel’s first book of children’s poetry, “My Tooth Fell in My Soup,” came out in 2009 and inspired Kent’s South Side Dance Force director Joselito Castillo to turn all 21 poems in the book into a show.
Korhel and Castillo have now turned “The Kid with the Red Juice Mustache and Other Nostalgic Companions” into a live-action collaboration that tours bookstores, local schools and libraries.
There will be free performances of this children’s show based on Korhel’s book at 2 p.m. May 14 at the Kenmore Branch of the King County Library, 18138 73rd Ave. NE, Kenmore.
