Colin Angus is one of the most well-traveled adventurers alive.
In 2006, after two years and a 26,000-mile journey, the Canadian became the first man to circumnavigate the globe using entirely self-propelled methods of travel.
His wife, Julie Wafaei, then his fiance, was with him for most of the trip and became the first woman to row across the Atlantic.
National Geographic Adventure magazine named the couple their 2006 Adventurers of the Year for their extraordinary trip.
Now Angus, a prolific author and filmmaker, is coming to Snohomish County.
On Nov. 6, Angus will be the guest speaker at the Everett Mountaineers’ annual awards banquet and fundraiser, which is open to the public.
Angus’ presentation will include films and discussions of his adventures, followed by a book signing.
As part of the event, the Mountaineers will host a third-annual silent auction for Outdoor Youth Connections, a division of the Live, Love, Laugh for Youth foundation.
The nonprofit foundation was established in honor of Lake Stevens mountaineer Larry Ingalls, who died in 2006 while scrambling with two friends on Lewis Peak. Proceeds from the group will help kids pay for outdoor gear, special training or group outings.
Banquet tickets are $34 and will not be sold at the door. Registration is required by Nov. 2. Register at www.outdoor youthconnections.org/banquet.htm, write Penny Barker at pbarker81@hotmail.com or call 360-386-9261.
Social hour starts at 5 p.m. Nov. 6, followed by the banquet and speaker presentation, all at the Medallion Hotel at Smokey Point, 16710 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington.
