All about music: Schedule of concerts around Snohomish County

North Cascades Concert Band: The “Sousa, American Spirit” concert is at 7:30 p.m. April 13 at Byrnes Performing Arts Center, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd., Arlington. Staff Sgt. Harry Ong, clarinet soloist from the “President’s Own” United States Marine Band, will be featured on “Concertino for Clarinet” by Carl Maria von Weber, Artie Shaw’s “Clarinet Concerto” and “Clarinet Candy” by Leroy Anderson. The band also will perform works by Gustav Holst, Samuel Barber and George Gershwin. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted. More at www.nccband.org.

Cascade Symphony Orchestra: The annual “Ensembles Concert” is at 3 p.m. April 14 at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St., Edmonds. A series of small instrumental ensembles will preform the works of Johanna Beyer, Bohuslav Martinu and Ian Dicke. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for kids 12 and younger. Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra: Cuban percussionist Ignacio Berroa leads the band in a concert 7:30 p.m. April 15 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. A superstar on the drums, Berroa plays in all the New York big bands looking to mix Latin grooves with their jazz sounds. Tickets are $36 for adults or $10 for students. More at www.srjo.org.

Rene Worst & Jennifer Scott: The Jazz at the Center series continues at 7 p.m. April 17 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Worst, who plays the stand-up bass, has toured Canada with jazz legends such as Chet Baker, Gene Bertoncini and Joe Pass. Scott is a Canadian jazz singer whose vocal improvisation and piano skills led to a Juno Award — Canada’s music awards — for her 1997 album, “Mythos.” Tickets are $20. Call 360-387-0222. Native American music at the library: The “Sharing Coast Salish Canoe & Powwow Peoples Traditions” concert is at 6:30 p.m. April 18 in the Edmonds Plaza Room at Edmonds Library, 700 Main St., Edmonds. Caspar Babypants: Chris Ballew is best known as the former frontman of The Presidents of the United States of America, but he also performs as a children’s artist under this pseudonym. Miss Sydney & the Downtown Saints: The Edmonds cover band performs at 7:30 p.m. April 20 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. Led by singer Sydney Jensen, the band covers soul and rock ‘n’ roll classics. The band’s bassist, Gerald Johnson, has performed with the Steve Miller Band, Crosby Stills & Nash and John Fogerty.
