A while back I got the chance to interview Seattle soul singer Allen Stone and we spent a good portion of the interview talking about a show he had coming up with the Seattle Rock Orchestra. What was originally going to be one show quickly turned into a pair of sold out shows that took place this past weekend at Seattle’s Neptune Theater.
I can only speak for Saturday’s show when I say it was amazing, but I have a feeling Sunday night was probably just as good. It was clear that the orchestra had spent a good deal of time arranging several of his songs and Allen took every chance he had between songs to thank them for their hard work which had certainly paid off.
The high point of the night came when Allen Stone surprised the sold out crowd with a special guest appearance from Seattle rapper Macklemore. The theater went pitch black and when the lights came back up Macklemore was taking a seat back to back with Stone and the crowd went absolutely bonkers.
I have been to the Neptune a few times and have never heard a crowd go as crazy as this one did when the two local stars performed the new song “Neon Cathedral.” With Macklemore rapping while Stone sings the chorus and plays keys I’m not sure how these guys can lose. It’s unclear (to me at least) if these two plan on recording and releasing this song together but if they do it’s sure to get a lot of attention.
See for yourself.
