American Brewing in Edmonds released its second beer in their Comicon Series on Friday, unleashing Courage, an American wheat ale.
Courage is an American-style wheat ale that has a “combination of citrusy hops, an infusion of zesty orange peel and a subtle sweetness from the wheat,” according to a press release. The beer was brewed in conjunction with the Jet City Comic Show, which takes place on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Greater Tacoma Convention &Trade Center.
The brewery’s first release in the series was the popular Flying Monkey Pale Ale, which has gone on to become a year-round offering from the brewery.
The artwork for the Courage label was designed by Shane White, a local comic artist and concept designer for Amazon Game Studios.
“The Flying Monkey started it all and was a nod to the Wizard of Oz as a tie-in to the Emerald City name of Seattle and the Emerald City Comicon Convention,” the brewery said in a press release. “With Courage, we continued the theme of Wizard of Oz characters as well as fighter pilots from an earlier era all in an exaggerated comic book style of artwork.”
For now, Courage is a limited release, focusing on draft and 22-ounce bottles for distribution. The majority of the draft will be pouring the Tacoma area, but bottleshops in Snohomish County should be stocking 22s soon, according to the press release.
Courage has an ABV of 5 percent and IBU is 15.
