The nude is a classic in the art world going back centuries.
The art of the nude lives on in “UNCLAD 2006 – The Fine Art of the Figure,” which opens today in Stanwood for a three-day run at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center.
The show will feature about 185 works by 85 artists depicting the human nude in a startling variety of ways.
Visitors will find a range of styles and mediums from oils and pastels to charcoal, photography, bronze and wood sculpture. Some of the work is representational, while other works are abstract. The art in this show is as varied as the human body.
Admission is free.
“Unclad” has grown in popularity with artists and the public since organizer Gayle Picken put on the first show at her Camano Island gallery five years ago.
Because of its growth, “Unclad” has moved to the Norgaard Cultural Center for the added space. The show will also travel to Portland, Ore., on April 6 for the First Thursday Art Walk in the city’s trendy Pearl District.
World of “Unclad’s” success has spread in the art community with artists from around the country wanting to participate.
“We are getting 2,000 page views a day on the Web site,” Picken said.
Organizers have had to limit the size of the show to keep it manageable and at a size that people can enjoy the art without being overwhelmed, Picken said.
“The Norgaard Center is going to be fantastic … it has a great feel to it,” she said.
“UNCLAD 2006” is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Saturday at Sunday at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27130 102nd Ave. NW, Stanwood. Free admission: www.uncladart.com.
