Everett’s annual Gardens of Merit tour, which starts Saturday, has in the past put the focus, naturally, on the gardens.
But this year, the tour will combine the art of gardening with art in the garden. The tour will feature eight artists who will demonstrate their crafts at each of the six featured gardens, along with one artist at Evergreen Arboretum.
The Gardens of Merit Tour is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting at the Evergreen Arboretum &Gardens, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett.
Tickets to visit the six gardens can be purchased there for $10.
The artists are Reg Akright, a stone sculptor who was the Arts Council of Snohomish County artist of the year in 2008; Janet Hamilton, a pastel artist who was the Arts Council of Snohomish County artist of the year in 2001 and whose specialty is outdoor, or plein aire, landscapes; Lee Allen, who turned to watercolors 18 years ago after a 37-year career as a dentist; Susan Russell, a teacher who won the Richard Wendt Art Award of Excellence given by the City of Everett in 2003; Donna Perkins Wylie, who experiments with mixing watercolors with pastels; Ted Milam, a graduate of the University of Washington in fine arts, who casts and paints concrete leaves; and Penny Stewart and Roz Winters, artists and sculptors.
