In his new musical, David Duvall pairs big band swing, Brazilian bossa nova and disco with Shakespeare’s sonnets, exploring how these 400-year-old works still speak to contemporary audiences.
The new musical is “I Always Write of You,” and Seattle Shakespeare Company is developing the show through a workshop rehearsal process that culminates in three staged readings.
Directed by Duvall, “I Always Write of You” looks at the many aspects of love through a compendium of musical genres.
After each performance, audiences are encouraged to share their feedback to help develop the play.
The staged readings are planned for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 to 27 at Center House Theatre, Seattle Center, 305 Harrison St., Seattle. Tickets are $15 each. Call 206-733-8222 or go to www.seattleshakespeare.org.
