‘Battle in Seattle’
It’s November 1999, and five days are about to rock the streets of Seattle as tens of thousands of demonstrators protest the World Trade Organization’s Ministerial Meeting, according to the official Web site of “Battle in Seattle.” Andre Benjamin, Jennifer Carpenter, Michelle Rodriguez and Martin Henderson portray demonstrators. A peaceful demonstration to stop the WTO talks escalates into a riot, and a state of emergency is declared by the mayor of Seattle. Caught in the crossfire of civil liberties and keeping the peace are Seattle residents, including its mayor (Ray Liotta), a riot cop (Woody Harrelson) and his pregnant wife (Charlize Theron, pictured). Writer-director Stuart Townsend brings together the ensemble to intertwine different points of view, from protesters and police to delegates and doctors. The movie, rated R for language and violence, opens today at Neptune and Uptown. For more information, see www.battleinseattlemovie.com.
