Wikipedia has a list of inventors killed by their creations, which includes at least one household name: Marie Curie, who died of radiation poisoning.
The links provided under “further reading” and “external links” for the main article provide more examples of those who suffered as a result of their work. And perhaps a few warnings for anyone thinking about pursuing that idea about how to make the flying car thing work.
