Beach House released “Teen Dream” on Tuesday, its first album for Seattle’s Sub Pop Records.
TRIVIA: The Baltimore duo is made up of instrumentalist Alex Scally and singer Victoria Legrand, who is the niece of film composer Michel Legrand (the original 1968 version of “The Thomas Crown Affair,” among many others).
STANDOUTS: The band re-recorded its 2008 single “Used to Be,” a piano-driven track that finds the dreamy group getting a bit more jaunty than usual.
FANS DIG: Open fields
ANDY SAYS: Beach House is not a summery group. The duo writes delicate, haunted music. They would be a better opening act for Grizzly Bear than the Beach Boys. The group maintains its woozy instrumentation and wispy vocals on its third album, “Teen Dream.” The end result is a batch of songs that fall somewhere between good and great.
GRADE: B-plus
