Beach Watchers are volunteers dedicated to protecting Puget Sound through education, research and restoration.
You can get involved by taking the Washington State University Snohomish County Extension’s Beach Watcher training, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, March 24 through May 8 at McCollum Park in Everett.
Training includes classroom lectures, field trips and hands-on activities covering topics such as geology, coastal processes, forestry, birds, marine biology, water quality, climate change and native plants.
Program participants receive free training and, in exchange, must volunteer 100 hours within two years through research, education or restoration programs in their communities.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday. There is a $30 materials fee. Find an application at www.beachwatchers.wsu.edu or contact Chrys Bertolotto at 425-357-6020 or chrys@wsu.edu.
