My thoughts: Bothell’s Decibel Brewing is a mix of beer and music. Owners Corey Cook and Ben Endicott are high school friends and have a history in the music world, from production to playing.

Fittingly, all of the names of Decibel’s beers are named for either albums or songs, or music equipment. Pocketful of Gold, which comes from the Led Zeppelin song “Over the Hills and Far Away,” is the brewery’s most popular beer. Made with Mosaic, Centennial and Chinook hops, it’s a light IPA with a slight bitter aftertaste. It’s drinkable without being boring, and fits a niche between big, bold IPAs and session IPAs.

Cook said they started brewing the beer as home brewers five years ago and incorporated it into their lineup, not knowing that it would become so popular. The beer is now a flagship beer for Decibel and is always kept on tap the brewery.

Cook and Endicott will be pouring the beer and other Decibel brews at Bothell’s Shamrock Shuffle Wine &Beer Walk today and a tasting event at Diamond Knot Brewery &Alehouse in Mukilteo on March 15. They’ll also be visiting Everett’s Crucible Brewing on April 19 for another tasting event.

Decibel, which has been open since September, is located on Bothell-Everett Highway midway between Mill Creek and Canyon Park. The brewery is open Thursday through Sunday.

From the brewery: Made with Mosaic, Centennial and Chinook hops, this IPA has notes of floral and citrus and a thicker mouthfeel thanks to the flaked barley. It’s smooth for an IPA.

More new releases:
