A Bellingham nurse carved a career as an artist out of scraps of wood she didn’t want to go to waste. Stephanie Burgess started making happy pieces of art when she had a house built.
She burned and painted flowers, peace signs, rainbows and prose on the wood, letting the texture and imperfections be part of the composition.
Her specialty is decorative garden art Peace Poles, but she also makes wall planks and address signs, which can be seen on her website, www.paintedpeace.com.
“It’s a gentle message in a chaotic world,” she said.
