Big Game Hunter: "Gears of War 2"

Bloody battle: Everybody’s favorite Kool-Aid Man with a Lancer Assault Rifle is back. And this time, Marcus Fenix is playing for keeps.

Sounds like typical action-adventure hyperbole, right? Well, it is. But “Gears of War 2” is exactly what it means to be — savage, bloody fun.

Beginning where we left off in “Gears of War,” humanity has been pushed out of nearly every settlement to the Jacinta Plateau and the end is looming.

As a last ditch effort, Delta squad is flung back in the fray as the COG’s take the fight to the Locust Horde deep within the bowels of the planet Sera.

“Gears of War 2” features improved modes of play, with a linear but engaging campaign mode that delivers, even though the dialogue is often painfully unimaginative.

Horde Mode is where the replay value is on “Gears of War 2” and will keep you and friends vying against one another as waves and waves of Locust troops threaten to overwhelm.

Additions to the usual cache of weapons include a minigun, “The Mulcher,” that you crank by hand like an organ sans monkey, and the Scorcher flamethrower that can turn the game into easy mode with the push of a button.

If you have a Xbox 360 this is one that you will not want to miss.
