You can journey a little bit east to the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater to catch some new fangled yet old-fashioned bluegrass and new acoustic music by the band, Northern Departure, on Saturday.
Northern Departure is becoming red hot in the area, recently taking second place in a multi-week band competition at the Experience Music Project while going up against grunge bands and hip hop singers, according to the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater website.
Northern Departure brings traditional bluegrass to the stage with fierce finger styling and all the components of bluegrass including guitar, upright bass, banjo, mandolin and fiddle.
Northern Departure delivers flawless picking and earnest harmonies, say some reviewers, including Carlene J. Brown, assistant professor of music at Seattle Pacific University.
“Northern Departure are four talented musicians that bring energy, style and fun to their performances,” Brown said in a prepared statement. “Especially for those new to bluegrass, this ensemble amazes the audience and brings joy to a whole lot of folks.”
Northern Departure plays at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish.
Tickets are $10 for youth, $12 for adults. Go to BrownPaperTickets.com. For more information call 360-568-9412 or go to thumbnailtheater.com.
