Bruce Springsteen calls Ana Popovic “one helluva guitar player.”
The Los Angeles-based, Serbian-born blues singer and guitar slinger is on tour now, and she’s got a stop Saturday evening at the Historic Everett Theatre.
Popovic made her name first in Europe and then on the U.S. blues scene.
She was the only woman in the 2014 through 2017 all-star Experience Hendrix national tour, which included Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, Zakk Wylde, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, who celebrated the music of Jimi Hendrix.
Just in the past few years, Popovic has garnered lots of national media coverage and been nominated for all kinds of awards. Most recently she issued a triple album titled “Trilogy.” The work has 23 funk, rock/blues and jazz tunes.
Critics have described her style as “smoking electric funk with a tight blues groove,” as well as jazzy and soulful.
On her website, Popovic talks about her success.
“In an era where most are skeptic about the current state and future of the music industry, I wanted ‘Trilogy’ to tell a different story,” she said. “The record biz might be broken and Spotify might rip us off, but that can’t keep an artist down. Creativity is very much alive, and music is the celebration of life.”
Opening for Popovic will be the local Michelle Taylor Band.
Taylor and her band regularly play blues, rock, country and pop at such venues as the Capps Club in Bothell, Peabo’s in Mill Creek, the Tulalip Resort Canoes Cabaret, Quil Ceda Creek Casino, Swinomish Casino, Buzz Inn in Everett, the Cliffhanger in Lynnwood, the Cedar Stump in Arlington and even CenturyLink Field where the band performed for Seahawks fans.
Inspired by vocalists Beth Hart and Susan Tedeschi, Taylor sings with a similar passion and gritty quality. The band includes bassist Lissa Ramaglia, drummer Robert Morrill, guitarist Justin Dean and Jim Barnes on keyboards.
