Joyce Carol Oates will read from and sign the latest in her long list of novels, “The Gravedigger’s Daughter,” at 7 p.m. Monday at Seattle Public Library’s Central Branch. The novel is about the daughter in an immigrant family who escaped Nazi Germany and settled in upstate New York as she sets out to discover America.
Commentator Christopher Hitchens will discuss his book “God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Town Hall Seattle. In his book Hitchens knocks the institution of religion, favoring instead the world of science. The event is sponsored by the University Book Store and Town Hall for Civic Life. There is a $5 admission fee at the door.
