Hike to library

Peter Potterfield, author of “Classic Hikes of the World,” will have a slide show and book signing at 2 p.m. today at the Everett Public Library’s auditorium.

Signings this week

Ted-David Mizingou, a former ASB president at Everett Community College, will share his story and sign copies of his book, “Darkened by the Sun: A Story of Love, Faith, Hope, and Miracles” at 11 a.m. Monday at the EvCC bookstore. Mizingou was born in the Republic of Congo and came to the United States at age 24 to attend EvCC. He has since earned a master’s degree in urban ministries from Nyak College in New York. The bookstore is on the first floor of the Parks Student Union at EvCC, 2000 Tower St., Everett.

Journalist Micah Garen talks about his abduction by militants in southern Iraq and the amazing story of his rescue at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Third Place Books. Garen will also sign copies of his book, “American Hostage.”

Halloween howls

To old for trick-or-treating? Dress up as your favorite politico and meet comedian and author Al Franken at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at Seattle’s Town Hall. Franken will sign copies of his latest book, “The Truth (With Jokes),” which picks up where “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them” leaves off. Tickets are free with a copy of “The Truth” purchased at University Book Store or $5 at the door.
