‘One Book’

The “Two Counties, One Book” reading discussion on “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress” by Dai Sijie, a short novel set in China during the Cultural Revolution, continues this week. The program is the culmination of the Sno-Isle Libraries Year of the Book celebration. The discussion this week is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Snow Goose Bookstore, 8616 271st St. NW, Stanwood.

Author signings

Local explorer and author Helen Thayer will talk about her experience in the Canadian Yukon that she chronicled in “Three Among the Wolves: A Couple and Their Dog Live a Year With Wolves in the Wild” at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Bay Book Co.

Mystery writer Lowen Clausen will sign his latest crime thriller set in Seattle, “Third and Forever,” at noon Saturday at Seattle Mystery Bookshop.

‘My Town’

Jim Mitchell will sign copies of his memoir about Lake Stevens, “My Town,” between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday at J. Matheson Gifts, 2615 Colby Ave., Everett. You can also meet watercolor artist Elizabeth Webber and glass artist Darleen Nixon. In addition, a representative from Thymes will be demonstrating aromatic candles and bath products. ‘Polar Express’

Get the kids in a holiday mood with a reading of Chris Van Allsburg’s “The Polar Express” by actors from the Repertory Actors Theatre at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Elliott Bay Book Co.’s children’s section. The event is free.
