Pearl’s wisdom

Librarian, author, talk show host and bobblehead model Nancy Pearl will lead a lively book discussion at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W. Pearl, who recently retired as the director of the Washington Center for the Book in Seattle, will talk about her recommendations. The program is free. Call 425-778-2148 for more information.

‘Two Counties’

The Sno-Isle Libraries is also sponsoring the “Two Counties, One Book” program for the finale of their Year of the Book. More than a dozen book discussions are planned for November throughout Snohomish and Island Counties. The book selected for discussion is “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress” by Dai Sijie.

This week’s discussion groups are: 7 p.m. Monday, Everett Public Library Main Branch, and 2 p.m. Monday at the Oak Harbor Library, 1000 SE Regatta; 7 p.m. Tuesday, Arlington Library, 135 N. Washington Ave.; and 2 p.m. Saturday, Mukilteo Library Meeting Room, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

Author talks

Ivan Doig, nationally known author of “This House of Sky,” will present a program at Monroe High School’s performing arts center at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Doig will talk about writing this book, a memoir of his life growing up in Montana. The high school is at 17001 Tester Road, Monroe. The free program is sponsored by the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation. For more information call 360-651-7000 or 800-342-1936.

Dr. Audrey Young, a staff physician at Harborview Medical Center and an instructor at the University of Washington, will talk about her experiences as a medical student, which she compiled in a memoir, “What Patients Taught Me,” at 6 p.m. Friday at Third Place Books.

Camano Island writer Norma Tadlock Johnson will sign her book, “Donna Rose and the Slug War,” at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Snow Goose Bookstore in Stanwood.
