Film series

The Everett Public Library continues its Sunday film series with “The Rage in Placid Lake” at 2 p.m. today in the main library auditorium. “The Rage,” by director Tony McNamara, is a Melbourne International Film Festival winner about a high school boy (Placid Lake) dealing with bullies, a girlfriend and aging hippie parents. The library film festival is free.

‘One Book’

The “Two Counties, One Book” reading discussion on “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress” by Dai Sijie, a short novel set in China during the Cultural Revolution, continues this week. The program is the culmination of the Sno-Isle Libraries Year of the Book celebration. The discussions take place at the following locations:

7 p.m. Monday at Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave.; and 7 p.m. Monday at Edmonds Library, 600 Main St.

6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Langley Library, 104 Second St.

6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Clinton Library, 4781 Deer Lake Road.

1 p.m. Friday at Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W.

Science series

Biologist Richard Dawkins will be at Seattle’s Town Hall as part of the Seattle Science Lectures series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. After the lecture, Dawkins will sign copies of “The Ancestor’s Tale,” which chronicles the history of evolution. Admission is $5 at the door with priority seating for Town Hall members.

‘Opus’ opus

For something a little different, you can catch a preview of Book-It Repertory Theater’s production of “Red Ranger Came Calling” at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Third Place Books. “Red Ranger, by Berkeley Breathed, is a Northwest Christmas tale. Breathed, famed creator of the Bloom County cartoon characters, will speak at 7 p.m. and sign copies of “Opus: 25 Years of His Sunday Best.”
