Pack your shovels, buckets and sunscreen and get ready to dig!
The 10th annual sand sculpting contest will take place Thursday at Marina Beach in Edmonds.
The two themes from 2008, “Sandcastles With Drawbridge and Moat” and “Your Favorite Creature (Real or Mythical, Wild or Domestic),” are returning for an encore, event organizer Tammy Rankins said.
Signups begin at 10 a.m., after which participants can start building.
Age groups are 13 and under, 14 and up, and family. Adult assistance for the 13 and under group is limited to verbal guidance.
Participants must not disturb marine life or vegetation, scoop up mud or build in any area except the sand, meaning specifically that they must avoid eelgrass beds.
“This event isn’t only for kids — adults can have fun, too, playing and creating in the sand,” Rankins said.
Judges will begin circulating at noon and six winners will receive their Golden Bucket Awards, which are plaques filled with saltwater taffy, at 12:30 p.m.
