Cafe Zippy hosts some national talent this weekend with a melodic duo from Georgia playing on Friday night and a New York activist and singer celebrating the songs of Woody Guthrie on Saturday.
The Lovely Drifters play from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the cafe.
Suggested donation is $5.
The Lovely Drifters is made up of singer and songwriter Amy Andrews and cellist Alex Sia. The acoustic duo is touring on its first studio extended-play recording with stops in British Columbia and the Yukon Territory.
The music is a combination of soulful, folk and blues.
Andrews’ voice has a Bonnie Raitt influence and Sia enjoys taking her classically trained talents outside the symphony hall.
On Saturday, George Mann puts the focus on one of America’s folk heroes on the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Woody Guthrie.
Mann performs two sets from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Cafe Zippy.
Suggested cover charge is $5 to $10 though no one will be turned away for lack of money.
All ages are welcome
Mann is a folksinger and union organizer. He has played anti-war music for years and he sings and produces music for veterans to try to raise awareness about post-traumatic stress disorder, according to press material.
