EVERETT — Get your Elvis on.
The second annual “Elvis Challenge” is 7:30 p.m. May 6 at the Historic Everett Theatre.
Amateur Elvis artists are needed to compete for the crown of “the King” in the show that drew a dozen crooners last year.
Contestants will sing two songs with house band Kentucky Rain Band and be judged on vocals, costume, stage presence and audience response.
“At the end of the show all the Elvi sing a finale song together,” said Rob Schwertley, an Elvis performer who goes by “Robbie Dee.”
Part of the proceeds benefit the Everett Gospel Mission.
Last year, Steve Unger, a Puyallup bass player in a heavy metal band, took home the crown, besting 11 other competitors. Unger will return as a special guest for this year’s event.
“A number of contestants are coming back,” Schwertley said. “It was fun and high energy.”
Elvis Presley, touted the “King of Rock and Roll” by baby boomers, died at his Tennessee mansion, Graceland, in 1977 at age 42.
His last words: “I’m going to the bathroom to read.”
In 2018, Donald Trump posthumously awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, along with Babe Ruth and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Lisa Marie Presley, his only daughter with actress Priscilla Presley, died Jan. 12 at age 54. She gained fame in her own right as a singer-songwriter.
The 2022 movie “Elvis” about his life has been nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Sound.
Elvis Presley starred in over 30 feature films but was never nominated for an Oscar. He won three Grammy Awards and was inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
You can gyrate your inner Elvis on the dance floor at the May 6 show in Everett. General admission is $25.
