  • Nautral Resources Youth Camp, June 20 through 26, Cispus Learning Center, Randle; for ages 12 to 16; register by June 15.

    Snohomish County YMCA: Drop-off sites, times and camp hours vary; Everett branch, 425-258-9211; Marysville, 360-653-9622; Monroe, 360-805-1879; Mukilteo, 425-493-9622; Southeast, 425-337-0123; www.ymca-snoco.org/camp. Most run June through August; for kindergartners through age 16; approximately $85 to $430 per camper. Call branches for specific costs and registration details. Topics include horse camp, various sports, overnight trips.

    Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater: 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. Register at 360-568-9412; www.thumbnailtheater.com. Summer theater and dance classes, choose 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, June 21 through Aug. 19 or 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, July 5 through Aug. 18; $100 per series, per person; theater games, script reading, comedic timing.

    Village Theatre Kidstage: Most camps at Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave., Everett. Register at 425-257-6371; www.villagetheatre.org/kidstage.shtml. Half- and full-day camps of fundamental and musical stage productions and skill camps for ages 4 to 18, June 14 through Aug. 6; $115 to $250 per week.

    Washington State Youth Conservation Camp: ELC Moran State Park, Orcas Island. Register at www.washington conservationcamp.org. Boys’ camp, 253-875-1241; girls’ camp, 253-875-3796. Full days (overnight stays required), Sundays through Saturdays, July 11 through 17 for girls; July 18 through 24 for boys; $250 per participant covers food, lodging, transportation and activities; for ages 12 to 16; hiking, ecology, archery, water safety, survival skills, environmental topics, Washington state history.

    Seattle

    Burke Museum: UW campus, NE 45th Street and 17th Avenue NE. Register at 206-543-5591; www.burkemuseum.org/education/summer. Camps running July 6 through 23 include “Little Dinos” for kindergarten and first grade; “Dinos!” for second and third grades; “Girls in Science” for seventh through ninth grades; most $175 to $300 per week.

    Seattle Humane Society: Register at 425-373-5385; www.seattlehumane.org. Animal Adventures day camps, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, July 5 through Aug. 6, Seattle Humane Society, 13212 SE Eastgate Way, Bellevue; $180 per one-week camp; for ages 8 to 11.

  • Shoreline Jazz Camp, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 2 through 10, site TBA; for seventh- through 12th-graders; $295.
  • August Arts Camp, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 through 13, Meridian Park School, 17077 Meridian Ave. N., Shoreline; for third- through sixth-graders; $200.

Performance and improvisation camps for ages 3 to 20, 9 a.m. to noon or 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, June 28 through Aug. 27, Good Shepherd Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N.; Seward Park amphitheater, 5902 Lake Washington Blvd. S.; Stone Soup DownStage, 4029 Stone Way N.; $160 to $420, one- and two-week options; “Where the Wild Things Are,” “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.”

    Taproot Theatre: Single-week to multiple-week options for pre-kindergartners through 12th-graders; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through either Thursdays or Fridays, June 21 through Sept. 2; $185 to $535 per camp. Sites are Taproot Theatre, 204 N. 85th St.; Ballard Church, 1460 NW 73rd St.; Grace Fellowship Church, 410 NW 62nd St., all in Seattle. Register at 206-529-3668; www.taproottheatre.org. Some require auditions or previous acting experience. Drama day camps, musical theater, Shakespeare, audition skills, improv and comedy skills.

    Curly Tops Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisfiera), a modern version of the old Boulevard Cypress, is one I chose years ago and still enjoy.
