“Chamber Cymbeline”: One of Shakespeare’s last plays, this is a story of deceit and pride, with a beheading thrown in for good measure, and all the elements of a saucy fairy tale.
The tale includes a wicked stepmother, a banished princess and a faithful servant, all presented in Seattle Shakespeare Co.’s streamlined version of the original play.
The story line focuses on Princess Imogen who is exiled after being falsely accused of adultery. The princess, through disguise and cunning, perseveres in a harrowing journey that eventually clears her good name.
“Chamber Cymbeline” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Jan. 30 at Center House Theatre, 305 Harrison St., Seattle.
Tickets are $20 to $38 at 206-733-8222 or www.seattle shakespeare.org.
“14/48: The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival”: The process of creating 14 plays in 48 hours starts with about 80 artists, a theme drawn out of a hat and an envelope.
Inside that envelope are the writers’ marching orders about the cast. Writers then go off to quickly write a 10-minute play.
Audiences are treated to the result of this fast-paced creative exercise in the form of seven new plays during one sitting at ACT Theatre.
“14/48: The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival” performances are at 8 and 10:30 tonight and Saturday
at ACT, 700 Union St., Seattle.
Tickets are $20 at 206-292-7676 or www.acttheatre.org.
Early warning: “And, Mr. Beagle, when might we expect payment? When what freezes over?”
It takes just one ringy-dingy to send us back to the days when Lily Tomlin, the snorting phone company representative, politely haggled with customers and threw the rest of us into fits of laughter.
Tomlin, the actress and comic legend, will revisit more than a dozen of her most beloved characters including Edith Ann, Ernestine the Phone Lady and Mrs. Beasley when she presents her one-woman show later this month at the 5th Avenue Theatre.
Tomlin will do two performances of “The Best of Lily Tomlin” at 8 p.m. Jan. 29 and 3 p.m. Jan. 30 at the 5th Avenue Theatre, 1308 Fifth Ave., Seattle.
Tickets start at $30 at 206-625-1900 or 888-584-4849 or www.5thavenue.org.
