The quiet town of La Conner is about to get a shake-up: The poets are coming.
For three days, poets, lovers of the literary and curious tourists will descend on the Skagit County town for the biennial Skagit River Poetry Festival, where the verse will be flying, in song and in storytelling, in poetry performances, and in films and workshops.
This year’s guest roster includes some big names in the poetry world:
Ted Kooser, a Pulitzer prizewinner for “Delights and Shadows” and twice named as U.S. poet laureate;
Poet twins Matthew and Michael Dickman, profiled in the The New Yorker magazine;
Samuel Green, winner of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry and Washington state poet laureate.
The Skagit River Poetry Festival runs from May 20 to 22 at various venues in La Conner. For a complete schedule of events and to buy tickets, go to www.skagitriverpoetry.org.
