A party in your mouth: We know how it is. You want your Fourth of July dessert to make a big impression, but you don’t want to waste your patriotic holiday shopping and baking.
Here’s a genius solution: cupcakes topped with whipped cream, blue and red berries and … POP ROCKS!
Yes. Pop Rocks; that retro, exploding candy that explodes in your mouth.
The idea was inspired by an Associated Press story that called for cupcakes from scratch, made in little coffee cups, topped with real whipped cream and the aforementioned candy.
We think there has to be an easier way.
There is: Pick up a cake mix; the kind with confetti sprinkles would be festive. Or mix in some candy confetti.
When the cupcakes are done and cool, top with a generous coating of whipped-cream-in-a-can and a couple of blueberries and raspberries, or slices of strawberries for that red, white and blue effect.
At the last minute, sprinkle on the Pop Rocks.
Your mouth will be playing the “1812 Overture.”
