Dance in the new year at Everett Events Center

Add a New Year’s Eve Gala to the list of firsts at the Everett Events Center.

The Snohomish Art Guild is hosting a New Year’s bash at the ballroom that includes music and dancing, food and drink, party hats and noisemakers and entertainment.

Festivities kick off at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 when the doors open, and music and dancing starts at 9. Tickets are $35 and proceeds will benefit the Snohomish Artist Guild scholarship, said Cliff Verhoeff, a member of the organization.

The entertainment will be headed by Soul Flight, an R&B dance band from Tacoma that performed at the Everett Pop &Arts Street Festival in September. The band plays a mix of music from the 1970s forward, with covers of hits by artists such as Aretha Franklin and Earth Wind and Fire, Verhoeff said.

Also in the lineup is the Emerald Rain dancers, who will give a demonstration of belly dancing and sword dancing.

The $35 admission includes a champagne toast at midnight, party favors and snacks. There will be a full, no-host bar and appetizer-type food available for purchase. The party continues until 1:30 a.m.

A number of businesses have contributed door prizes to the event, including the Everett Aqua Sox, the Everett Silvertips, Starbucks and Studio Donna, Verhoeff said, and some area hotels are offering room and gala packages.
